Landscape Management

Managing your landscape is an important part of maintaining and even increasing the value of your property. At Granite Ridge, landscape management goes deeper than mowing, fertilizing and trimming. We are knowledgeable in all aspects of turf, soil conditions and plant diseases. During each visit to your property, we check plants for disease and insects, make sure the turf is stress-free and healthy, and make sure moisture is at the proper level.

We take a sensible approach to planning, creating and managing landscapes that are suitable to your zone and the particular ecosystem of your property. We help you select plants that thrive in the harsh climate of Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.

At Granite Ridge, landscape management goes beyond plant maintenance and care. Our visits include routine checks of hardscape elements, such as patios, retaining walls and sidewalks. Early detection of cracks and heaves can save time and expense as well as keep the appearance of your property attractive and well-kept.

We can answer all of your questions about:

  • Irrigation and water systems
  • Insect and pest control
  • Landscape enhancement
  • Groundcover and erosion control
  • Tree and shrub care

Landscape Design & Install

Each of our landscape designs is created specifically for your property. Our focus is on creating designs that are aesthetically pleasing, yet simple to install and maintain. When we meet to discuss your design, we listen carefully to your comments and opinions to determine how the landscape will be used. Whether the design is for your home, your second home or your business, it will add value and beauty to your property for years to come.

One of the main goals of good landscape design is to create interest and and an invitation for people to enter the outdoor space. The curve is natural in any environment, so we use it to emphasize the natural beauty of plants and other elements in the landscape. Selection of consistent plants or plant groups throughout the landscape is an important part of the design. This consistency is more pleasing to the eye and complements structures, such as homes and office buildings.

Repetition of plant styles or characteristics is another way to create harmony in your outdoor space. This means consistent use of plants that have similar textures, colors, heights or shapes. It also means incorporating the hardscape elements that not only increase value, but add usability of your outdoor space. For businesses, this means complementing structures and encouraging employees and guests to use the space. For homes, the goal is to make the space comfortable for the members of your family – and this includes pets.

Keeping your landscape design simple not only reduces maintenance time and costs, but it adds a dimension that elicits the comment “well-kept”. Keeping to a simple theme throughout the design helps lead the eye to the best qualities of your property, whether it’s a building, pond, or other focal point.

At first glance, the concept of balance sounds very straightforward; simply mirror the design on both sides of a specific element, such as a sidewalk, driveway or parking lot. But, when designing landscapes, this is not necessarily the best option. Asymmetrical designs can actually be more pleasing to the eye where balance is used effectively. The asymmetrical layout can be tied together with repetition of plant height, shape, color, groupings, bed shapes, etc.

For example, one side of your yard could be graced with mature shade trees and the other side more open and sunny. In spite of the fact that we’ll need to use shade-loving plants on one side and sun worshippers on the other, we can balance the design by displaying similar bed shapes, leaf textures and colors and plant heights.

The other thing we may do is purposely provide contrast, while maintaining balance. We may opt for flowing, curved design on one side, while contrasting it with straight lines and heights for its twin. The result can be quite dramatic and aesthetically pleasing.
